IMG_9939There is nothing quite like being able to grocery shop all in one place. For those of us with celiac disease, food allergies and intolerances and special dietary needs grocery shopping can be a very daunting task. Whole Foods has always been one of my favorite places to shop. In fact, I’ve joked with my husband that while most girls would want an unlimited gift card to a clothing or shoe store, I’d want mine to Whole Foods. ;) Funny I know but it’s true. Ever since I was a little girl, I LOVED grocery shopping. As I got older, my mom would “let” (as now I understand to her it was awesome that I wanted to AND thought she was being nice by letting me ;) ) go grocery shopping for her. Seriously, if you don’t know by now then you will by the end of this post know that I LOVE food!!

Last week I went to my local Whole Foods to get some things for the upcoming holiday season including our Thanksgiving dinner and stocking stuffers. I even surprised myself by looking down at my phone clock to see that nearly two hours had passed in what seemed like a matter of minutes. It’s a good thing my boys love the grocery store as much as their mama or else it would have made for a long two hours. It is just such a fun store to browse and get creative cooking ideas in. I remember in her first book, Shauna James Ahern said she would choose one or two new and unusual things to purchase per paycheck that weren’t typically on her grocery list. This fed her inner foodie without breaking the bank. It also got her to try many new things. I have since tried to adopt this philosophy and have enjoyed doing so. Here are some of the things we purchased this shopping trip.

Stocking Stuffers: Justins NEW White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, Popcorn, Indiana’s Hot Cinnamon Popcorn and Kettle Brand Chips in two great flavors

Thanksgiving Day Needed Items: Sweet Potatoes, Yukon Gold Potatoes, Vegenaise, Tamari Crackers, Garlic Stuffed Olives, Strauss Cream (the best!), Pacific Foods Chicken Broth & Cream of Chicken Soup and Sweetened Condensed Milk

After Thanksgiving Easy Dinner Items: Udi’s Rolls and Pizza

December Items: So Delicious Coconut Eggnog and Arrowhead Mills Quinoa and Rice Shine Cereal

After all that shopping I was getting a little hangry (hungry-angry ;)) and so were the boys so I picked them up some fruit leathers, popcorn and water bottles (which they ate entirely including the big bag of popcorn in the cart while riding around) and went over to the sushi counter to check and see if there were options for me. I was so grateful when the main sushi counter man talked to me about how they could safely prepare me a gluten-free roll. They use real crab which is rare and AWESOME for us. They also have tamari gluten-free soy sauce on hand to provide gluten-free guests with. I told him I had celiac disease so he said he would use clean tools to prepare. It turned out to be one awesome roll!! Please keep in mind, that all locations may not be able to do this. Always check thoroughly with yours before ordering.

I am lucky to have a Whole Foods not too far from my house. This is a store I will always shop at especially for those hard to find items like the NEW peppermint yogurt covered Glutino pretzels which they had! So are you ready to win a $50 Whole Foods gift card all for yourself?! Enter below…
